A lake with the area of 4,5 hectare and maximum depth of 25m formed in the old inactive since the 60’s quarry. White, limestone rocks give the water a unique bright turquoise colour. The visibility is maintained within the range 8-12 metres.
The old quarry has been closed since the 1960s, and today its basin is occupied by a lake that is 11 acres large and even 25 metres deep. Its white limestone rocks give the water a unique, bright turquoise colour. Visibility can reach from 8 to 12 metres. After a rainfall, due to the limescale washed off the slopes, visibility deteriorates.
At the bottom of the basin, we can find remains of ancient mining activity, like pipes, steel plates, stairs, but also two sunken FIAT 126 cars, tyres, a 6,5-metre wooden sailing boat cabin, or a 12-metre sea yacht. Shallower water is home to vegetation, which sometimes includes quite large trees, and to fish: perch and pike. The Piechcin reservoir can be a wonderful spot for weekend diving trips. However, since the lake area belongs to the mine, individual diving and swimming are not allowed.
