The most famous archaeological site in Europe. The settlement in Biskupin belongs to the Lusatian culture, which existed in the later Bronze Age (approx. 15th century BC) and early Iron Age (approx. 5th century BC).
The ancient settlement of Biskupin is the most famous archaeological reserve in Europe. It is associated with the cultural circle of the Łużyce region, which lasted from the middle of the Bronze Age, around the 14th century BC, to the early Iron Age, around the 5th century BC. Biskupin is one of the few archaeological sites in Poland to present full-size reconstructions of a rampart, a breakwater, gates, streets and residential buildings. Apart from the reconstructions, Biskupin also boasts a museum, where every year, in the third week of September, people can enjoy the Biskupin fair with its experimental presentations and reconstructive shows. It is also home to one of the only two existing Polish laboratories in charge of the maintenance of wet wood excavated from archaeological sites, and a centre for experimental archaeology.
